2024 Honda ADV160 - Water pump problems resolved?
Fourth time's a charm; the dealer's mechanic inspected the third replacement and found a few under-sized o-rings. Let's hope this solves it!

    Sorry as I have to disagree with you for life of fuel injection system dependability. I bought my 2022 Honda ADV 150 new and with about 4,000 miles my Fuel Pump died. Luckily my extended Warranty took care of the ridiculous $1,100 bill.👍 I checked on U-Tube and I’m one of many having same problem occurring.🤔

      Even the 1986 Honda Helix had a fuel pump… and they almost never failed. I just looked it up and the pump itself costs about $47 and looks relatively easy to access - I’ll keep an eye out for issues. I wonder who the OEM is for that pump… the injection system itself is Kei-Hin, and similar to other Honda models.

    I really enjoyed your tour. I am taking delivery tomorrow of a 2025. I really wanted the Pearl blue color, but it seems that there are still supply chain issues looming from covid and they can be hard to find locally. I also paid about $5600 delivered to my house. A good chunk of that is the $600 destination fee.

    Regular SOS pads and water hand rubbing outside on a support cleans and shines really well and yes you need to wash up afterwards. Use a hose to clean up frames. You can even use your electric brush followed by the SOS . Question- are the seals between the glass and the aluminum intact? I have the old kind that glued the glass in with a glazing strip facing out. They leaked like mad. Now looking at reseating the glass with glazing tape or adhesive. Especially for the bathroom.

    How many miles? How many months have you had it

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 5 дней назад

      First pump was leaking after just a few miles, second pump was so bad the technician pulled it immediately back off (bad casting he later said), third pump leaked on the way home from the dealer, and pump #4 appears to be a winner. Nearly 600 miles, most of them under pump #3. The leaks were all from the mechanical seal, seeping from the weep hole. After I had so many issues, the dealer dissected one of the pumps and identified, what he claims to be, o-rings that were “too thin” for the application.

    I always wanted 17" intel mac but life & work insisted on bigger toys & high paced modern life, finally on retirement I bought an iMac 17" intel for £10 to dedicate as a home for my Hi Fi files, running a tiny amp from the audio output to two speakers. It's really a no brainer. Having spent hundreds wading through the hi fi world then it all went digital. The final iMac setup result are better than buying into expensive specialist audio. Because I'm not bothered about the speed of internet, a new SSD with Snow Leopard works wonders. Thanks

    Thanks for the updates. I was really looking forward to picking up this bike when I head back to the US - I’ve even been putting aside my pennies to save up for it. I’m not sure I would get it anymore. They do have a 2025 model out, and I wonder if they resolved this issue. I look forward to some more updates from you down the road to see if your opinion of the bike has changed or if you’ve sold it. You definitely didn’t let me down with the issues you’ve been having - the only way you would let me down is by being falsely positive about it.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 8 дней назад

      In all honesty, I truly love the bike for what it is - the seat can be a bit rough on longer rides, but no worse than other scooters I’ve owned. The water pump issue is very much a problem, but not something that I’d be too concerned about - the pump costs around $30 and can be easily replaced down the road. The PCX is another good choice - same driveline and basic frame design but geared more toward urban commuting

    • @Ziggy8750
      @Ziggy8750 5 дней назад

      He’s the only guy on the planet that’s had this problem, they use these bikes for rentals.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 5 дней назад

      No, this is an issue that seems to happen on these newer Hondas from time to time. It’s entirely possible the rentals do indeed seep a miniscule amount of coolant - but not enough to cause a problem. On my trip to Bermuda, the Honda PCX was one of the better scooters on the road (but only residents can drive them due to engine size restrictions).

    • @iamrishio
      @iamrishio 4 дня назад

      I still have about a year before I purchase it. I heard rumblings of a redesigned 2025 PCX on youtube, so if that’s happening, it may be an option and I’ll check that out as well. The other option is the Honda Grom which people are saying has an unbreakable engine. Honestly though, the ADV scooter design hits all the right points for me: 160cc is perfect as I rarely will go on the highway and want a bike that can go to about a 65 top speed while being lightweight. A 2.1 gallon gas tank mated with the high efficiency motor is perfect as well. Under seat storage and upright stand is extremely useful. The two seater design is perfect for me and my gf (we are fairly small and light people - me being 5’6”, 125lbs - her under 5’). The ADV is meant to be my main form of transportation, the only vehicle I own, and when I need a car, I would rent one - that’s why reliability is crucial. It’s a shame that the Grom gets a rear disc brake but the adv gets a drum. I also like the built in USB port, though I can’t understand why they didn’t make it usbc and why it is in a sealed glove box. Anyway, I thought Honda meant reliability, and am disappointed of the issues that are being presented here. I’ll be keeping an eye on this and other reviews for the next 12 months before I purchase it, but then again, the only other option I have is the Grom, which looks fun, but not practical enough. Anything over 200cc is not for me - I don’t want the extra weight, power, expense or lesser fuel economy.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 4 дня назад

      I honestly wouldn’t worry about the rest of the bike - the engine is a newer design, but based on a much older - and proven - ESC series engine. The water pump is merely a fluke, likely a bad run from Swico - Honda’s water pump supplier. These bikes are all over asia, europe, and bermuda racking up tens of thousands of miles without issue. Are they as bulletproof and forgiving as the 80s Hondas? Absolutely NOT! - but nothing is, or ever will be again!

  • @NeptuneSega
    @NeptuneSega 8 дней назад

    Oh no, really unreliable. I would sell it too. Don't want to be stranded far from home. Shame because the bike looks great

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 8 дней назад

      It’s actually been very reliable in all other aspects. The water pump is clearly a weak point, but from what I understand, once you get a good one - it’ll be just as good as any other watercooled bike. I have a viewer who has thousands of miles on his with no issues of any kind.

    maybe you can find a after market pump that is better

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 8 дней назад

      Doubtful. The engine is a bespoke design, unique to Honda, and the factory pumps are inexpensive enough to make it unlikely anyone’s improved upon the design.

    Hello, enjoyed your videos. I have a similar record player to this. Motorola model 8H27W-1, looks like was made 8/22/1959. My problem is with the volume control, when you turn the knob sound is low or not coming out of front speakers. It was but then would fade in and out and then if wiggle knob it would get lounder. Now even wiggling does not do anything. I took bottom cover off of player off so can see inside, I can see where volume knob is coming through to make connection, but don't know much more of what to look for or do, any ideas? I don't see anywhere here to add a photo that would help. EDIT: I got it working!!! Your video was so helpful to take the turntable out and I think just the wire that plugs into the speaker port was it. When I put it back together and played a record I only have it on volume 2 and it is great! There are some other issues similar to yours with the record finding the right spot to sit at, but I am just going to leave that alone and enjoy listening. Thanks, will keep watching for any further Motorola videos.

    Ironically, I saw a JB Weld ad on this video. But if Honda's coolant is like VW's pink G12 coolant, then anything that leaks out will dry to a hard crust which helps to seal off a minor leak. So try leaving the seepage alone rather than wiping it off.

    • @bbishoppcm
      @bbishoppcm 12 дней назад

      No, you NEVER want to allow the weep hole to get plugged up. This hole is designed to be the first sign of failure when a pump seal begins to fail - allowing fluid to build up inside the housing can eventually force coolant into the crankcase

    Ok, I feel oblicated to share something. I'm a long time viewer and I didn't really leave much comments (changed name). I was still an atheist only 2 years ago, so I know you don't wanna hear this... 28:42 25:33 28:19 32:23 35:52 This is God knocking on your door. Whether you like it or not. As was your scooter accident. (God is not to be mocked, Galatians 6:7) In your previous videos/livestreams you have talked about how people act like crap nowadays, and I agree (2 Timothy 3:1-4, Romans 1:29-31). All these problems you're having with the new things you buy is God trying to make you understand that this world is going downhill fast and these objects are not gonna make you happy (1 John 2:15-17). You've talked about how everything is going to crap nowadays and it's true. People and big companies trying to control everything + greed and other things are driving this. And all these problems you're having with the old things you're trying to preserve is God trying to make you understand that everything in this world decays away (Matthew 6:19) and worldly possessions don't matter in the end. I was (somewhat still am) into 90's cars and retro + modern computing also. 36:24 Seat belts aren't going to keep you safe where the world is going, Jesus is. (John 11:25-26) Humble yourself, ask God to show Himself to you and start reading the Bible while it's still easy (John is a good starting point). If you go to a church, pick a church that actually reads and believes the bible, because there are a lot of false churches.

      The ADV is truly a great machine in terms of ride quality compared to older models; the engine is quite torquey for its size, and the fuel injection should eliminate most of the problems associated with older bikes - the water pump is a weak spot. Like most modern stuff, it's a bit soulless. They have to deal with expectations of low fuel consumption and very tight emissions standards. The old engines had more play in them by design. The old Africa Twins where V-twin 650 and 750, the new ones 1000 and 1100 are parallel twins. As you, I want to find saved in a dry garage 650 Africa Twin on low kilometers. The bad thing is that we are not the only ones. There are bunch of people with money aside just for finds like this and find like that are flaying fast. The one thing I don't like in the Helix and the Elite series is the rear brake foot pedal. I'm too use to modern configuration with left lever for rear brake.

    Got my adv 160 brand new in March and I’m about to hit 5,000 miles with no problems. Sorry to hear your experience is not the same. Any chance you will sell me your service manual if you get rid of your adv? At the moment, Helminc are not selling service manual for 2024 adv 160.

      Looks like they pulled them from publication... I wonder why? I may have the only copy in the US!

    Dude, I know exactly what you mean when you talk about people not being attentive. I miss riding, it was a lot of fun, but I just had too many close calls. My buddy gave me that XR650 I rebuilt the engine on; in the month or so that I had it running and was riding it, I must have gotten hit 3 different times.

      I stopped commuting on my moto in the early 2000's even then too many people on their phones (then flip phones and even installed "car phones") but a few too many close calls. I miss riding and would from time to time after that (on the weekends and in the evenings before people left after dinner (and drinks) - just not worth the risks.

      I tend to disagree - so far, the only issue I’ve had was with the water pump, and some minor seepage appears to be normal, and should subside. The rest of the engine seems to be decent, on-par with the industry as a whole.

    I really enjoyed the rant part of this video. I’ve been watching you since you pretty much started. I use Plex to host my media, my 2012 retina mbp is on Monterey using opencore patcher, I used a BlackBerry Classic for years until they stupidly killed 3G without issue, I use a plasma tv from 2012, Sony receiver from 95, and I use a optical audio to analog converter, and so on. Like you’ve said, I prefer older tech both hardware and software. Stuff just works.
